Amarone della Valpolicella Docg Riserva - Brigaldara

Amarone Riserva is born from a selection that takes place in the cellar, at the end of Amarone’s long ageing journey.

Grapes from the estate’s various vineyards are vinified separately and monitored over time with the aim of fully expressing the distinctive character of each terroir. After around four years of ageing, certain barrels begin to reveal exceptional longevity. When this happens, those lots are set aside and allowed to age further, eventually becoming Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva.

There is no single vineyard or dedicated cru for the Riserva: each vintage is the result of selecting the barrels that, over time, show the greatest potential. For this reason, every Riserva is unique – a reflection of both the character of the vintage and the vineyards from which it originates.

The Vintage
The season began with a mild, relatively dry winter followed by a cool, wet spring that slowed early growth. Summer remained cooler than average, with frequent rainfall that made vineyard management more demanding. September brought settled weather, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually and evenly. Overall, 2016 stands out for its balance and depth – the result of a fortunate combination of freshness and excellent late-season ripening.

The Vintage
Very high temperatures and below-average rainfall characterised much of the growing season. After a relatively mild winter and steady spring development, summer brought heatwaves and intense sun, putting the vines under significant water stress. At the same time, the hot and dry conditions kept disease pressure low throughout the season. A rich and concentrated vintage that called for careful management in the vineyard, but rewarded with grapes of exceptional ripeness.

The Vintage
The season began with a cool, very wet spring that delayed budbreak and flowering, making vineyard management particularly demanding. With the arrival of summer the weather shifted dramatically, bringing warmer temperatures and dry conditions that allowed the clusters to develop properly. Late-summer temperature swings helped the grapes build phenolic depth and complexity. Harvest came later than average, yielding wines of remarkable balance and precision.

The Vintage
A mild and relatively dry winter led to slightly early budbreak, later slowed by several cold spells in spring. Summer was marked by high temperatures and limited rainfall, putting the vines under considerable heat and water stress. Rainfall at the end of August, combined with cooler temperatures, restored balance in the vineyard and allowed the grapes to complete ripening steadily. A challenging but rewarding vintage, with reduced yields and healthy fruit.

The Vintage
A rainy winter gave way to a warm spring that pushed the key stages of vine development forward. After a dry start to the season, summer rains encouraged cluster development, followed by a hot, dry August that maintained the early growth momentum. Harvest took place in ideal conditions, with stable weather and strong day-to-night temperature swings. The 2011 vintage is remembered as early and of excellent quality, with yields in line with appellation regulations.

The Vintage
Abundant winter rainfall left soils well-supplied with water as the growing season began. A mild spring encouraged rapid vine growth and an early flowering. Summer brought warm, sunny weather, with a particularly hot August, while September's temperature swings allowed the grapes to develop their aromatic and phenolic complexity. Harvest arrived with lower yields than the previous year, but the grapes were in excellent condition.

The Vintage
The 2007 growing season began with an unusually mild and dry winter, which brought budbreak forward by around twenty days. Rainfall in May and June replenished soil moisture, allowing the vines to continue developing steadily through spring. A stable, sunny summer supported the gradual ripening of the grapes, and harvest took place under dry, breezy conditions with strong day-to-night temperature swings. An early and particularly well-balanced vintage, remembered for the grapes' perfect health and full ripeness.
